G’day Mate! You looking for a fresh take on your HIIT and circuit workouts that are fun, energetic, and require minor translation to and from Aussie parlance? Then this might be right up your.. um.. barbie?!
I’ve been to Training Mate quite a few times and I find myself coming back frequently. It’s one of my favorite places to go, and what I would consider a great “Goldilocks” workout zone. It’s challenging and I get to push as hard as I like; but if I’m a little sore from previous days, I can ease up and get through it without feeling like I’m completely blown out for the rest of the day (unless Luke gets me to do 30 cals in 45 secs on the assault bike, because then I’m pretty much ☠️).
The instructors are full of energy and if you’re lucky enough to get one of the true blue Aussie ones - they never fail to entertain with a certain “no fucks given” chaotic energy that I truly enjoy. It’s the only place where I’ve heard “my dick in a box” as part of the music rotation, and I’m here for it.
The workout itself is a HIIT circuit, 45 mins total. It’s around 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off: 3 exercises x 3 rounds each x 3 different sections with breaks in between = about 30 mins total HIIT workout + abs and core for the remainder of the workout. It’s a great balance between strength and cardio - you can lift heavy enough to get your hypertrophy gains, and the pace stays high enough to keep that heart rate in the right zone.
The workouts rotate each day between upper, lower, and full body. So if you’re a glutton for punishment, you could literally come here every day.
The showers are nice and the products are great - though I gotta say that while the rain shower sounds like a great idea, it alas never quite has enough hot water to really live up to the steamy dream it promises 🥲
