Nike Running Studios

I've only been to this place once.

First impression is that this studio, configured to look like the bridge on the Starship Enterprise, is Nike’s answer to Barry’s Bootcamp. Nothing too fancy or frilly, just several high-end treadmills all facing a large screen, and a second half of the studio dedicated to compact all-in-one weight benches with dumbbells.

Class is divided into two parts: running and floor. The running is pretty standard, warmups, jogs, sprints, repeat. There is a race screen every now and then though, and you know how I am… as soon as I saw the race screen I stopped sandbagging and started actually sprinting like I should have been doing the entire damn time. The floor half is pretty simple, two sets of 4 exercises, 9 minutes each set - amrap format (as many reps as possible). You can go a little heavier if you like, however, keep in mind that you’re limited to dumbbells, and the pace stays pretty high and skews cardio vs strength.

The studio is clean and modern, Nike gear and apparel for sale up front. No shower or fancy amenities here. It’s a pretty sleek, no nonsense place - no obnoxiously loud music, no multi-colored lighting schemes, no weird gimmick; I actually appreciate it’s simplicity and purity. This might be up your alley if you don’t have any needs outside of a workout that skews cardio with some weight work mixed in.

No showers though, so it does leave my morning routine a bit.. wanting.

I'm the Santa Monica Gym Dinosaur

On a mission to go from Jurassic to fantastic.

I'm sweating my way through every gym in Santa Monica.

Have one you think I should try?
